荣辱生死-英文翻译

今天又读了几句《菜根谭》里的句子。很多有些消极，但有更多的人生哲理可以学习。今天再翻译其中两句：

荣与辱共蒂，厌辱何须求荣；Glory and shame grow on the same stem.We do loathe shame, but we do not have to pursue glory.

生与死同根，贪生不必畏死。Life and death are from the same root.We do long for life, but we do not have to be afraid of death.

上面的“荣”一般翻译为“honor”，但我觉得“glory”更有"攀比"性。因而虽然glory表面上比honor更加荣光，但 to pursue honor 是完全正当而且是应该去做的事，而 to pursue glory 可能就有些没必要的过分了。因此，我把这里的“荣”翻译为“glory”。
